About Us

PARIVAAR-NCPO was formed in the year 1995. It is a Federation of over 180 Parents Associations and NGO’s in 28 States of India working for people with intellectual disability, Autism, Cerebral Palsy and Multiple Disabilities. Parivaar is a grass out level organization with 85, semi urban 53 and 42 rural parents associations.

PARIVAAR-NCPO belives in Child Protection Policy.

Creation of awareness in society to accept persons with intellectual disability and other developmental disabilities as contributing members at par with others and with their inclusion in every sphere of life.

Advocacy on behalf of persons with intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, autism and multiple disabilities to gain and protect their rights; lobbing for providing more concession and schemes to improve education to make them part of the mainstream and creating an environment for them to live independently to the extent possible in the community.

• To secure legal rights for persons with intellectual Creation of awareness in society to accept persons with intellectual disability,cerebral palsy, autism and multiple disabilities and their families.
• To fight for human rights and social justice, against exploitation, abuse and discrimination by implementation of legal rights of persons with these disabilities and by appropriate for PARIVAAR-NCPO in policy making and implementation bodies at Central, State and at local level.
• To promote interests of persons with intellectual disability and their families by bringing about cooperation and coordination among organizations at State/District level.
• To endeavor for bringing about inclusion of the disabled in all fields of life with focus on inclusive education.
• To create common bond of understanding and action among parents, professionals and others concerned with the problems of the above disabilities, throughout India and the world.
• To protect all rights of persons with disabilities and their parents, families, guardians and enabling them to live life of dignity and enjoy full citizenship
• To endeavor to bring all parents under the common umbrella of PARIVAAR-NCPO, by forming Parents Associations and train them to function as pressure groups to chive the above objectives.
• To create public awareness through print and electronic media and through all other means.

Since its inception PARIVAAR-NCPO has established its credibility with the Governments at the National & State Level and in international forums

It is the apex organization at the national level that speaks for the rights of persons with intellectual disability, Autism, Cerebral Palsy and multiple Disabilities and their families.

PARIVAAR-NCPO is a full member of Inclusion International, a world wide body of parents Associations of above disabilities in over 200 countries closely working with and its agencies.

PARIVAAR-NCPO ceaselessly fights for the rights of the intellectually and developmentally disabled persons for job reservation, proper and effective implementation of all legislation's and programs that have been undertaken by the Government through representation, lobbying and direct action.

In addition, PARIVAAR-NCPO offers its members associations and other interest groups:

• Capacity Building and leadership works.
• Publication of Newsletter and awareness material.
• Support initiatives for Inclusive Education.
• Setting up self - help groups for providing occupation and employment to persons with intellectual and development disabilities through micro-economic activities.
• Organizing Roundtable conferences to bring synergy among all stakeholders.
• Networking at state and National Level.
• Counseling, advising and helping the affiliated organizations and individual parents.

Despite many good provisions in the legislation's for the benefit of the disabled, the implementation of them by the Govt. agencies and autonomous bodies under the direct control of the Govt, is very tardy and slow. Despite constant efforts by Parivaar to bring about a change and offer its full cooperation to these agencies, not much has been done. Parivaar, therefore, has to redouble its efforts to bring about synergy between all stakeholders and the desired change for benefit of persons with these disabilities.

PARIVAAR-NCPO is campaigning along with other disability organizations for implementing the provisions of the U.N. Convention on the protection of Rights of persons with Disabilities which has been ratified by the Government of India.
